Attacked While Jogging on Athletic Field in Bridgeville

Bridgeville
– The Delaware State Police
are investigating an attempted sexual assault of a 27-year-old
Bridgeville woman as she was jogging on the athletic fields on
Woodbridge Road (property of the Woodbridge School District) near
Bridgeville. The assault occurred Sunday, August 31 at approximately
11:00 am.
Troopers
responded to the scene after the victim and a person who arrived to
work on the fields called 911 to report the incident. Investigators
learned the victim was jogging on the property when a black male
subject confronted her. The subject, who was described only as
approximately 15 – 18 yrs of age wearing a white t-shirt, made a
statement to the victim that he knew her. The victim stated to the
suspect that she did not know him and continued on her run.
The suspect
continued to follow her insisting that he knew her causing alarm to
the victim. The victim attempted to increase her running speed to
get away from the suspect when he tripped her to the ground. The
suspect then jumped on top of her attempting to restrain her. While
doing so, the suspect removed his white t-shirt, wrapped it around
his fist and struck the victim several time in the face. During the
struggle, the suspect was attempting to put his hands up her shorts
and touch her inappropriately. He also took the victims I-Pod
earphones and wrapped them around her neck in an attempt to choke
her.
The victim
informed police she was able to fight back enough to prevent him
from getting full control and was able to strike him in the groin
area. The suspect became dazed and then got up and fled in a nearby
wooded area.
When troopers
arrived, they located the victim and the concerned citizen behind
metal bleachers to the softball field. The concerned citizen, who
was the subject who arrived to work on the fields, found the victim
lying there semi-conscious. The victim was taken by ambulance to
Nanticoke Hospital, treated, and released for injuries sustained in
the assault.
A search of the
area by troopers, a K-9 and helicopter did not locate the suspect.
Investigators have been able to create a composite sketch of the
suspect and are asking for anyone with information on this crime to
