Bridgeville
– The Delaware State Police have arrested a 36 year old Bridgeville
man for several drug offenses after he fled on foot from troopers.
Last evening, a trooper who was patrolling in the area
Coverdale Rd and Mill
Park Lane was contacted by a subject who informed the trooper that
there were subjects on Mill Park Dr. who were selling illegal
drugs.
The informant further stated the subjects were in the area of a
picnic table on Mill Park Dr. Following up on this tip, troopers at
approximately 1:30 am responded to the area of the picnic table on
Mill Park Dr. to contact the subjects. When the trooper exited his
patrol vehicle and identified himself as a police officer one of the
subjects immediately began running away on foot.
The trooper gave chase and observed the suspect obtain a light
colored object from his right pocket and throw it into an area of
overgrown grass and weeds. The suspect continued to refuse commands
to stop and the foot pursuit continued approximately 50 yards when
the trooper apprehended the subject.
During a search of the suspect after the arrest a plastic baggy was
located in his front left pants pocket which contained marijuana.
The trooper then returned to the area where he observed the suspect
throw the light colored object. The trooper was able to locate a
plastic baggy containing a yellowish white colored chunky substance
resembling cocaine. However, after further investigation it was
determined the substance was a counterfeit substance made to
resemble cocaine. The total weight recovered by troopers was 5 grams
of marijuana and 3 grams of the counterfeit cocaine.
The area where this incident occurred is located within 1000" of the
Coverdale Child Development Center which houses children’s day care
and preschool. As a result of the investigation, troopers arrested
Spence D. Wright, 36 of Mill Drive, Bridgeville. He was charged
with:
Possession with Intent to Deliver a Narcotic Schedule II Counterfeit
Controlled Substance, Resisting Arrest and Possession of
Marijuana.
