DSP Investigates 4-Vehicle Physical Injury Crash

New Castle - On Sunday, April 5th, 2009, Delaware State Police responded to a physical injury crash involving four vehicles traveling on Wrangle Hill Road at the northbound SR 1 exit ramp.

Investigation revealed the front vehicle, a 2007 Honda SUV, was operated by Ms. Teresita Perez-Hyderkhan, 48, of Middletown, was traveling in the right lane of Wrangle Hill Road and was stopped due to congestion.

Ms. Perez-Hyderkham was wearing a seatbelt and did not sustain any injuries in this crash.

Traveling to the rear of the Honda also stopped due to congestion was a 2003 Toyota Camry, operated by Ms. Jihae Park, 20, of Dover.

Ms. Park's vehicle was occupied by a front seat passenger, Ms. Tae Koo, 22, of Dover.  Both Ms. Park and Ms. Koo were wearing their seatbelts.  Ms. Koo was transported to Christiana Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.  Ms. Park was cited for Failure to Provide Proof of Insurance.

The stationary Toyota Camry was struck in the rear by a 2001 Ford Focus, operated by Mr. Larence Demarie, 59, of Dover.  Mr. Demarie was restrained and did not sustain any injury in this crash.  Mr. Demarie was cited for Inattentive Driving.

A fourth vehicle, 2002 Volkswagen Passat, then struck the rear of the Ford Focus.  The Volkswagen was operated by Ms. Tracy McLaughlin, 37, of Pottstown, Pennsylvania.

Ms. McLaughlin's and her 4-year old son were properly restrained in the vehicle.  Both were transported to Christiana Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.  Ms. McLaughlin was cited for Inattentive Driving.

Alcohol was not a factor in this crash.  Traffic was diverted to Wrangle Hill Road while the crash was being investigated.  In addition, there was significant congestion in the area due to a portion of southbound SR 1 being closed as a result of a separate physical injury crash.
