Multiple Vehicle Crash Seriously Injures One Individual

 

Released Friday, March 27, 2009

 

New Castle - On Friday, March 27th, 2009, shortly after 1600 hours, Delaware State Police responded to the northbound lanes of US RT 13 at Cox Neck Road, north of the St. George's Bridge, reference a physical injury crash involving three vehicles.

 

As a result of the crash and subsequent investigation the roadway was closed approximately three and a half hours.  The roadway has since been reopened.

 

The investigation revealed that a 2001 Dodge Durango towing a bass boat, was operated by Robert Douglas, 48, of Newark.  The Durango was traveling northbound in the right lane of US RT 13.  As Mr. Douglas' vehicle approached the intersection of US RT 13 and Cox Neck Road the passenger side of his vehicle was struck.  Mr. Douglas' passenger side was struck by a 2007 Pontiac G6, operated by Katherine Cieflak, 32, of Delaware City.  Prior to impact, Ms. Cieflak was traveling westbound on Cox Neck Road approaching USRT 13.  At the present time it is unknown if Ms. Cieflak stopped at the stop sign where Cox Neck Road and US RT13 intersect.

 

Upon impact the Dodge Durango traveled head-on into a 2004 Nissan Maxima, operated by Celinda Conteh, 31, of New Castle.  The Maxima was stopped in the southbound turn lane of US RT 13 waiting to execute a left turn onto Cox Neck Road.

 

Mr. Douglas was transported to Christiana Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.  Mr. Douglas was properly restrained in the Durango and was treated and released.

 

Ms. Conteh and two juvenile children, ages six and eight, were also transported to Christiana Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.  Ms. Conteh and the two juvenile children were properly restrained in the Maxima were also treated and released.

 

Ms. Cieflak was transported to Christiana Hospital were she was admitted with serious injuries.  Ms. Cieflak was wearing her seatbelt.

 

Alcohol is not a factor in this crash and the investigation is on-going.

Traffic Advisory: Multiple Vehicle Crash Involving Injuries

New Castle -  At the present time Delaware State Police are on-scene of a physical injury crash involving multiple vehicles.  The crash occurred in the northbound lanes of USRT 13 at Cox Neck Road, north of the St. George's Bridge.  The roadway is presently closed for emergency personnel and for the investigation of this crash.

 

Motorists are urged to seek alternate routes of travel.

 

Additional information pertaining to this crash will be released as soon as it becomes available.
