Hartly
– A Hartly man wanted in connection to several incidents in Delaware
has been apprehended in Baltimore City, Maryland after detectives
learned he was eluding Delaware authorities and hiding out in
Baltimore.
Detectives
began searching for William S. Sells III, 26 of Hartly after
he was involved in an altercation with a female acquaintance on
January 15, 2009. In this case, Sells unlawfully entered the woman’s
home on Westville Road in Hartly and rummaged through her purse
searching for money. After not finding any, Sells proceeded to hit
and push her demanding money. He then began destroying items in her
home while she attempted to call 911. Sells then took the victims
cell phone preventing her from calling. Afterward, Sells left the
home and police were summonsed. The victim was not injured. Because
of this incident, arrest warrants were obtained for Burglary 2nd
Degree, Attempted Robbery 2nd Degree, Conspiracy 2nd
Degree, Malicious Interference with an Emergency Call, Offensive
Touching and Criminal Mischief.
On January 27,
2009 at approximately 11:15 pm, a state trooper conducted a traffic
stop on a vehicle for a traffic infraction in the area of Tuxedo
Lane in Woodside. The trooper contacted the operator who identified
himself as Sells. However, before police could confirm his identity
at the scene the operator fled in the vehicle avoiding police.
Police were not able to apprehend him and did confirm it was Sells.
Because of this incident, arrest warrants were obtained for
Resisting Arrest and Failure to Signal (traffic offense).
Finally, on
February 2, 2009 as police were searching for Sells they learned
that he borrowed a 2009 Jeep Patriot from an another acquaintance
that had rented the car from Spallco Car and Truck Rental in New
Castle. Sells never returned with the car. Arrest warrants were
obtained for Theft of a Motor Vehicle.
Through
investigative measures detectives learned Sells was in the Baltimore
City area and began working with Baltimore County and Baltimore City
police departments on locating him. Baltimore City police were able
to locate him on February 4, 2009 and took him into custody after a
vehicle pursuit where Sells attempted to elude police in the stolen
Jeep. He is currently incarcerated on criminal charges in Maryland
and will face the aforementioned charges in Delaware when returned.
