Burglary Investigation

Dover / Townsend
–The Delaware State Police have arrested three persons
responsiblefor a December 2008 Townsend robbery of a pizza
deliveryman. The case was solved after a separate burglary
investigation that detectives at Troop 3 were investigating led them
to information linking the crew to the robbery.
On January 15,
2009, the Delaware State Police were investigating a burglary that
occurred at a residence in the 300 block of Norway Drive, Dover.
This investigation led detectives to a former roommate of the victim
who formally lived at the home a month prior to the incident. During
the burglary, detectives noticed no sign of forced entry to the home
and discovered that a T.V., X-Box video game and various X-Box games
were taken. Additionally, all exterior doors had deadbolt locks and
were secured.
Of particular
interest to the investigators was the fact that it appeared as if
the culprit staged the crime scene by breaking a window in the home
with a hammer. However, investigators noted that the glass was
broken from inside the home because of the broken glass lying on the
ground outside under the window. Furthermore, the broken window’s
hole was small and could not allow a person to enter through it. The
victim then informed police the hammer that was left at the crime
scene, near the broken window, came from within his home.
The victim
stated only he and his former roommate, Mark A. Fedorkowiez,
19 of Smyrna, were the only two persons that knew the hammer was
kept in a specific drawer in the house. Police learned Fedorkowiez
also had a key to the home. Additionally, through investigative
measures detectives learned from another source that Fedorkowiez
lives with Sean M. Gardner, 20 of Smyrna and that the two
have recently spoken to various people stating that they committed
the crime.
As
investigators continued this investigation, they also received
information that these two persons, along with Erica A. Jardine,
20 of Smyrna, had committed a December 2, 2008 robbery where a pizza
deliveryman was robbed at gunpoint. Again, information obtained by
detectives surrounded the fact that all of these subjects were heard
bragging about the crime.
The robbery in
question occurred at 9:34 pm at a home in the 900 block of Van Dyke
Greenspring Rd. The victim, a 26-year-old Smyrna man, was confronted
by a shotgun wielding white male, approximately 6’ tall and 18 – 20
years of age. The suspect ordered him to the ground, and robbed him
of his money. After receiving the money, the suspect fired one round
in the area of the victim before fleeing in a waiting vehicle. The
victim was not injured. The description of the suspect matched that
of Fedorkowiez.
Through
interviews with these subjects, detectives were able to garner
information that supported their involvement in the robbery. As a
result of the investigation, the following charges were levied
against these persons:
- Mark A.
Fedorkowiez and Sean M. Gardner were arrested for Robbery First
Degree, Possession of a Deadly Weapon during the Commission of a
Felony, Reckless Endangering 1st Degree, 2 counts of
Conspiracy 2nd Degree, Burglary 2nd
Degree, Theft and Criminal Mischief. Both were remanded to the
James T Vaughn Correctional Center in lieu of a $42,100 secured
bond.
- Erica A.
Jardine was arrested for Robbery First Degree, Possession of a
Deadly Weapon during the Commission of a Felony, Reckless
Endangering 1st Degree, and Conspiracy 2nd
Degree. She was remanded to the Delores J Baylor Women’s
Correctional Institute in lie of a $46,000 secured bail.
