Drives Into Post Office

New Castle
– The Delaware State Police have cited a 57 year old New Castle
woman after her vehicle struck a US Post Office located at 147
Quigley Blvd in New Castle.
Troopers
responded to the minor injury crash today at 9:59 am after it was
reported a 2006 Nissan Altima, operated by Bernice Century, struck
the building causing minor damage to the vehicle and building. The
Altima did not penetrate the building which was occupied.
Ms. Century did
sustain a minor injury and was treated and released from Christiana
Hospital. Investigators determined the Altima was legally parked in
a marked parking space in front of the Post Office. For an unknown
reason when Ms. Century was trying to leave the parking lot she
drove the vehicle forward instead of backwards. In doing so, the
vehicle crossed over a curb and sidewalk before striking the
building.
Alcohol is not
a factor and Ms. Century was wearing a seatbelt. She was cited for
Careless Driving. Due to the minor damage to the building the
business was not effected because the crash.
