Vehicle Drives Into Post Office

Released Saturday, January 17, 2009

New Castle – The Delaware State Police have cited a 57 year old New Castle woman after her vehicle struck a US Post Office located at 147 Quigley Blvd in New Castle.

Troopers responded to the minor injury crash today at 9:59 am after it was reported a 2006  Nissan Altima, operated by Bernice Century, struck the building causing minor damage to the vehicle and building. The Altima did not penetrate the building which was occupied.

For an unknown reason when Ms. Century was trying to leave the parking lot she drove the vehicle forward instead of backwards. In doing so, the vehicle crossed over a curb and sidewalk before striking the building.

Alcohol is not a factor and Ms. Century was wearing a seatbelt. She was cited for Careless Driving. Due to the minor damage to the building the business was not effected because the crash.
