Felton
– The Delaware State Police are investigating an overnight crash
that claimed the life of a 20-year-old Magnolia man. Troopers
responded to the single vehicle crash on Canterbury Road (SR 15)
approximately one-tenth of a mile north of Midstate Road (SR 12) at
approximately 1:16 am.
The
investigation has revealed a 2006 Toyota Scion, operated by Vincent
N. Butto, 20 of Magnolia, was traveling northbound on Canterbury Rd
approaching Midstate Rd. The Scion failed to stop at the stop sign
at this intersection and continued across the intersection leaving
the east edge of the roadway entering a farm field.
Consequently,
the vehicle overturned several times ejecting Mr. Butto from the
vehicle resulting in his death. A lone front seat passenger, Tabatha
L. McCarthy, 20 of Magnolia, was injured in the crash and flown to
Christiana Hospital by DSP helicopter. She is in stable condition.
Preliminary
investigation revealed both parties were wearing seatbelts and that
speed was a factor in the crash. Alcohol is not suspected to be a
factor. Because of the crash, the roadway was closed for
approximately 3 hours as investigators examined the scene.
The crash
remains under investigation.
