Update # 2 – Teen Charged in Fatal Crash

Woodside – Today, members of the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit arrested Katherine E. Cotullas, 17, of Harrington for her involvement in the fatal crash that occurred on December 20, 2008.

She was formally charged with a single count of Operating a Vehicle Causing the Death of another Person and Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign. Both are traffic offenses and she was released to the custody of her parents.

Update #1- Troopers Probe December 20 Fatal Crash in Kent County

Released- Sunday, December 21, 2008

Woodside- The following information was ascertained subsequent the initial investigation into the fatal crash which occurred last evening in Kent County.

A 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse (operated by Katherine E. Cotullas, 17, of Harrington) was southbound on Autumn Moon Road approaching Millchop Lane.

A 2008 Chevrolet Van (operated by Daniel C. Boone, 26, of Middletown) was westbound on Millchop Lane approaching Autumn Moon Road. 

A 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier (operated by Brooke, C. Davis, 17, of Magnolia) was eastbound on Millchop Lane approaching Autumn Moon Road.

This investigation revealed Ms. Cotullas failed to stop for the stop sign at Autumn Moon Rd and Millchop lane.  The Eclipse then struck the van in the right rear for the initial impact.  The van rotated clockwise, overturned and struck the Cavalier.

Ms. Brooke Davis died as a result of the injuries she sustained in this crash. 

Ms. Cotullas and Mr. Boone were treated and released from area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. 

Charges have not been filed as of yet and this investigation in ongoing.

DSP News Release: Saturday, December 20, 2008, Troopers Probe Fatal Crash in Kent County

Location of Incident: Millchop Lane at Autumn Moon Lane, Kent County Delaware

Date and Time of Occurrence: Saturday, December 20, 2008, 9:32 p.m.

Suspect(s):  N/A

Resume: State Police and emergency personnel from Kent County at currently on the scene of a fatal crash on Millchop Lane at Autumn Moon Lane.  Initial reports indicate that two vehicles are involved and one person was pronounced dead at the scene. 

For media representatives… the final details concerning this crash are not expected to be known this evening prior to news paper and TV deadlines.  An additional release will be provided tomorrow morning after the investigators in this case have an opportunity to piece this crash together.
