Updated DSP News Release (and story): Monday, March 30th, 2009, Three Suspects Carjack Vehicle… Injuring Driver

Wilmington- Yesterday morning, the Delaware State Police Public Information Office reported on a carjacking which occurred at about 3:00 a.m.

Several hours after this report was made public to the media, the victim responded to Troop 6 at Prices Corner where he needed to pick up paperwork regarding his recovered vehicle.  It was at this point the original investigating officer had occasion to speak with the victim again.

The officer noted several inconsistencies in the story the victim was telling now vs. what he provided at the time of the original investigation.   When all was said and done, the following incident account was uncovered…

Prior to the incident, the victim was at a Wilmington area nightclub when he engaged in some conversation with a girl whom he did not know.  The girl soon invited the victim back to her place for a nightcap, and in separate cars, the two drove towards Maryland Avenue.  The victim became a bit suspicious when the girl drove into Banning Park and around to the pond at the rear of the property.

The victim said he parked his vehicle next to the female’s SUV at which time three subjects emerged from her vehicle and forced their way into his car.  The victim said he was beaten and robbed and the suspects even took his pants.  The suspects then fled the scene, with the female, in a white early 2000’s model Chevrolet Suburban.

The victim advised he was embarrassed in being victimized this way and it was for this reason, he fabricated being carjacked.

This incident remains under investigation.  Anyone with information pertaining to the robbery is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
