DSP News Release: Saturday, March 14, 2009- State Police Probe Grocery Store Robbery

Location of Incident: La Simpatica Mexican Grocery Store, 3731 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, Delaware, New Castle County

Date and Time of Occurrence: Friday, March 13, 2009, at approximately 8:55 p.m.

Suspect(s):

  • Black male, 18 – 20 years old, 5’09” to 6’ tall, wearing a green army jacket, black shirt and jeans
  • Black male, 18 -20 years old, 5’09” to 6’ tall, wearing a black shirt, jeans and a cloth over his face

Resume: State Troopers responded to the La Simpatica Mexican Grocery Store on Friday night for the report of an armed robbery. 

The victims (two store employees: a 26-year-old male and a 29-year-old female) reported two male suspect entered the business shortly before 9:00 p.m.  One of these subjects was armed with a handgun and the other with a shotgun.

The bandits demanded cash from the employees who complied.  The bandits fled on foot from the business in an easterly direction.

Notes: This is a small scale grocery store in a strip mall on Kirkwood Highway.  Also, there is no surveillance video available.
