DSP News Release: Monday, March 09, 2009- Wanted Subject Apprehended After Foot Chase in New Castle

Location of Incident: 3000 block of New Castle Avenue, New Castle, Delaware, New Castle County

Date and Time of Occurrence: Sunday, March 8th, 2009, at approximately 8:30 p.m.

Suspect(s):  Waymond E. Wright, 35, of Fashion Circle in Newark

Resume: On Sunday, March 8th, a Trooper was patrolling New Castle Avenue when he observed Waymond Wright standing adjacent to a tractor trailer along the 3000 block of New Castle Avenue.  The officer was familiar with Wright and conducted a routine computer check on him.

The computer inquiry revealed Wright was wanted by the New Castle County Police Department on two separate warrants.  He was also wanted on five other outstanding capiases from New Castle Count Courts. 

The Trooper approached Wright who ran away.  After a brief foot chase, Wright was apprehended and transported back to Troop 2.  Upon conducting routine processing procedures, the arresting officer learned that Mr. Wright was wanted by the Volusia County Sheriff's Office (DeLand, Florida) for Robbery and Auto Theft with a nationwide extradition permitted upon his arrest.

For DSP, Wright was formally charged with: Resisting Arrest (misdemeanor) and Loitering (misdemeanor). 

For NCCPD, Wright was charged with: Menacing (Misdemeanor) Assault (Misdemeanor) and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle (Misdemeanor). 

Bail was set at $3,800.00 secured and Wright was committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institute.
