DSP News Release: Friday, March 06, 2009- Subject Gets More than He Bargained for in New Castle Deli Robbery

Location of Incident: Doms Deli, 135 Prangs Lane, New Castle, Delaware, New Castle County

Date and Time of Occurrence: Thursday, March 5, 2009, at approximately 12:10 p.m.

Suspect(s): Gerald T. Bulat, 28, of Middleboro Road in Wilmington

Resume: Yesterday, a robbery suspect got more than he bargained for when he tried to rob a New Castle area delicatessen.

At lunch time, 28-year-old Gerald T. Bulat, Jr, walked into the Dom’s Deli on Prangs Lane, in New Castle, with an article of clothing covering his face.  The would-be robber was armed with a tire iron and he grabbed the tip jar from the service counter. A store employee grabbed the tip jar too and a struggle ensued.  The tire iron fell to the floor which allowed two customers to grab onto Bulat and hold him until Troopers could arrive.

Troopers showed up on scene and took Bulat into custody.  He was transported back to Troop 2 where he was formally charged with the following offenses: Robbery 1st (felony), Possession of a Deadly Weapon during the Commission of a Felony (felony) and Wearing a Disguise during the Commission of a Felony (felony).

A computer check revealed Bulat was also wanted by Court 2.  In total, bail was set at $67,094.00 secured and Butler was remanded to the Howard Young Correctional Institute.
