DSP News Release: Thursday, February 12, 2009- Subject Charged with Stalking in Domestic Incident

Location of Incident:  Route 4 and Harmony Road, Newark, Delaware

Date and Time of Occurrence:  Wednesday, February 11, 2009, at approximately 11:04 p.m.

Suspect:

·        Anthony K. Medley, 26, of  Oakdale Road in Newark

Resume:  Yesterday evening, Troopers were called to the area of Route 4 for the report of a domestic situation in the area of Christiana Hospital.

While officers were enroute, it was learned that the two parties involved were in separate vehicles and that one car had struck the other.  Troopers arrived on the scene and intercepted both vehicles on Route 4 in the area of Harmony Road.

One of the individuals contacted was determined to be the victim in the case- a 19-year-old female.  She advised that at approximately 10:30 p.m., she had responded to the Wendy’s in the University Plaza Shopping Center to grab a bite to eat.  When she pulled into the parking lot, she observed her former boyfriend- suspect Anthony Medley.  Attempting to avoid any confrontation, the victim pulled out of the parking lot and onto Route 273.

The victim looked into her rear view mirror and observed Medley behind her.  She stopped her car hoping that Medley would drive on by, however, he stopped too. The victim could hear Medley yelling for her to speak to him, but she was scared and drove off.  Medley followed.

The vehicles turned onto Route 4 and when they neared the area of Harmony Road, Medley rear-ended the victim’s car.  She was not injured.  Troopers found the two parties shortly there after and assumed control of the situation.

A computer check revealed there was currently and active court order preventing Medley from contacting the victim.  He was taken into custody and transported back to Troop 6 for processing.  He was formally charged with Stalking (felony), Reckless Endangering (misdemeanor) and Noncompliance with a Court Order (felony).  He was committed to the Howard Young correctional Institute in lieu of a $2,500.00 cash only bond.
