DSP News Release: Monday, February 09, 2009- Update- Suspect Turns Himself In

“Publics’ Help Sought in Locating Domestic Assault Suspect”

Wilmington- On Sunday, February 8, 2009, Mr. Stephen J. Bennett voluntarily turned himself in to authorities at Troop 1.  He was formally charged with Assault 2nd (felony) and Terroristic Threatening (misdemeanor).  Bail was set at $15,000.00 secured and Mr. Bennett was released after posting same.

Bennett found out he was wanted after local media representatives covered the story.  He traveled back from out of state to answer to the charges. 

 

DSP News Release: Thursday, February 05, 2009- Publics’ Help Sought in Locating Domestic Assault Suspect

Location of Incident: I-95 in the area of Frawley Stadium, Wilmington, Delaware

Date and Time of Occurrence: Thursday, February 2, 2009 at approximately 11:30 a.m.

Suspects: Stephen J. Bennett, 31, of Ohio

Resume: The Delaware State Police are seeking the whereabouts of Stephen J. Bennett.  He is wanted in connection to a domestic assault from February 2nd

It has been alleged that at about 11:30 on the 2nd, Bennett and his girlfriend (also known in the case as the victim) were driving northbound on I-95 when the two engaged in an argument over the victim moving out of state. 

Bennett became enraged, produced a handgun, and pistol whipped his girlfriend.  He then tried to push her out of the vehicle and onto the shoulder of the roadway.  An unknown third party pulled over ahead of Bennett, maybe to help, and Bennett pulled his girlfriend back into the car and continued on. 

Stephen Bennett drove the victim to he residence where he threatened her.  He then fled the scene to an unknown location. 

Authorities have been unsuccessful in apprehending Bennett.  He is wanted for felony assault.
