DSP News Release: Monday, February 09, 2009- Subject Charged in Gas Station Burglary

Location of Incident: Gulf Station, 1607 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, Delaware, New Castle County

Date and Time of Occurrence: Sunday, February 8, 2009, approximately 3:29 a.m. 

 Suspects: Justin Harmon, 25, of Jill Court in Wilmington 

Resume: In the early morning hours of Sunday, February 8th, Troopers were called to the Gulf Station on Philadelphia Pike for the report of a burglary alarm activation.

When officers arrived on the scene they found the rear door ajar.  Troopers established a perimeter around the business and waited patiently.  Moments later, Justin Harmon emerged from the business.  Officers identified themselves and told Harmon to get on the ground. He, instead, fled on foot.  He was also in possession of a pry bar.

Officers gave chase and caught up with Harmon.  This burglar fell to the ground the tucked his arms in beneath his body- refusing to be handcuffed.  Finally, Troopers were able to take him into custody. 

A search of Harmon’s person yielded stolen cigarettes and money.  He was transported back to Troop 1 where he was formally charged with Burglary (felony), Possession of Burglars Tools (felony), Theft (misdemeanor) and Resisting Arrest (misdemeanor).

He was committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institute in lieu of $7,500.00 secured bond.
