DSP News Release: Friday, January 30, 2009- Wilmington Man Charged with Bootleg Recordings

Location of Incident: Southbound I-95 south of Harvey Road

Date and Time of Occurrence: Thursday, January 29th, 2009, at approximately 9:50 a.m.

Suspect(s): Derrick L. Hamilton, 46, of Harrison Street in Wilmington

Resume:  Yesterday morning, a Troop 1 patrol officer was on routine patrol when he stopped a white Mercedes for a moving violation.  The driver of the vehicle was identified as Derrick L. Hamilton.  A computer check revealed he was: wanted by New Castle and Kent County courts for failing to appear for trial, driving with a suspended license and did not have his insurance papers with him. 

During an inventory search of the vehicle, two plastic bags were located inside that contained over 100 counterfeit DVD’s and CD’s.

Hamilton was transported back to Troop 1 where he was charged with the following offenses: Improper Labeling of 100 or More Sound Recordings (felony), Manufactures or Uses Counterfeit Recordings (felony), Driving While Suspended and Driving without Insurance. 

He was released after posting a $2,800.00 secured bond.
