Location:  3900 Block of North Market Street Wilmington

Date  and Time: Friday, January 23, 2009, 4:26 pm

Victim: 9 year old Wilmington boy

Injuries: Punctures to his cheek, head and thumb

State Police and Delaware Animal Control are conducting an animal attack complaint that occurred late this afternoon.  A 9 year old boy was attacked by two pit bulls and sustained an injury to his head and arm.  The child was apparently walking along N. Market Street when he was attacked by two pit bulls.  The child was attempting to run away from the pit bulls prior to being attacked.  Civilians who witnessed the attack were able to get the dogs away from the child.  The pit bulls then fled the area.

The pit bulls were spotted on 36th Street Wilmington and responding Troopers with Delaware Animal Control were able to corner the dogs which were less aggressive at that time.  The two dogs involved in the attack were taken into custody without further injuries.

There were no collars or leashes on the pit bulls and the owners of the pit bulls are currently unknown.  Delaware State Police and Delaware Animal Control are continuing their investigation.  The child was transported to AI DuPont Hospital and is listed in stable condition..
