DSP News Release: Tuesday, January 13, 2009- It Does Not Get Much Lower Than This- Robbers Target Mentally Challenged Female Leaving Work and Waiting for the Bus

Location of Incident:  WalMart, 1251 Centerville Road, Wilmington, Delaware, New Castle County

Date and Time of Occurrence: Monday, January 12, 2009, approximately 3:40 p.m.

Suspect(s):  

  • Black male, 6’0 tall, 175 to 185 pounds, wearing a black t-shirt and jeans
  • Black male

Resume:  Yesterday afternoon, a 37-year-old mentally challenged female was leaving WalMart, her place of employment, and was waiting for a DART Paratransit bus in the parking lot. 

A male suspect walked up to her and asked her for money.  This subject was accompanied by a second male suspect.  When the victim refused to turn over any money, the suspects surrounded the female.  One suspect reached directly into the coat pocket of the female and took a small amount of cash.  The victim advised she was very scared and did not put up a fight.  She did, however, scream as the one suspect was taking her money. 

The two bandits fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction.
