DSP News Release: Monday, January 12, 2009- Wanted Bank Robber Strikes Again in Same Area, Apprehended in Pennsylvania

Location of Incident: PNC Bank, 3840 Kennett Pike, Greenville, Delaware, New Castle County

Date and Time of Occurrence: Monday, January 12, 2009, approximately 9:57 a.m.

Suspect(s):  John C. Mayhew41, of Wilmington

Resume:  It does not happen that often, however, crime suspect sometimes return to the area in which they had previously and successfully committed a crime.  These types of criminals commonly do so because they have not been identified yet.  Not so with Mr. Mayhew.

On today’s date, Troopers were called to the PNC Bank in Greenville for a reported bank robbery.  In this case, a light skinned black male suspect entered the bank and obtained an undisclosed amount of cash.  After the heist, the robber fled the scene in a stolen Chrysler Sebring. 

Officers, in cooperation with authorities in Pennsylvania, began an area canvas and happened upon the stolen vehicle, unoccupied, in the parking lot of the Brandywine River Museum. This facility is located at the intersection of Route 100 and Route 1 in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania. 

Officers began to check the area and the bank robber was apprehended hiding along the riverbank of the Brandywine River.  This subject was identified as John C. Mayhew. Warrants were already on file for Mayhew’s arrest as detectives connected him to a bank robbery less than a week before at the Wilmington Trust in Greenville.  It should be noted that the Wilmington Trust is located only about 100 yards away from the PNC Bank. 

Mayhew is being held by authorities in Pennsylvania.  Upon his return to Delaware, after extradition hearings and so forth, Mayhew will be charged with two counts of Robbery (felony). 

The Delaware State Police would like to officially thank the Pennsylvania State Police for their assistance in this apprehension.

Update #1- Bank Robber Identified

Released- Wednesday, January 07, 2009

Greenville- The suspect in yesterday’s bank robbery has now been identified as John C. Mayhew, 41, of Wilmington.  Mr. Mayhew was identified after several tips were received this morning. 

Warrants are on file and detectives are actively seeking his whereabouts.  Anyone who may know where John Mayhew is should call investigators at 302.834.2630 ext. 6 or Crime Stoppers at 1.800.TIP.3333.

Note of caution:  Mr. Mayhew should be considered armed and dangerous.

 

DSP News Release:  Tuesday, January 06, 2009-  Greenville Bank Robbery

Location of Incident:  Wilmington Trust, 3801 Kennett Pike, Greenville, Delaware, New Castle County

Date and Time of Occurrence: Tuesday, January 06, 2009, 1:47 p.m.

Suspect(s):  Light skinned black male, mid to late 20's, 6'00" tall, short hair, wearing a bulky dark colored jacket with a tan fur liner on hood; sweatshirt under jacket with a cartoon bull (multi colored), baggy jeans with some type of identification or pass hanging from the left front pocket,  noticeable scar over left ear. 

Resume:  Earlier this afternoon, Troopers were called to the Wilmington Trust in Greenville for the report of a bank robbery.

In this case, a black male suspect entered the bank and approached a teller.  He presented a demand note and implied he had a weapon.  The clerk complied and the bandit fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect fled the scene in possibly a Chrysler Sebring four door.
