Resume:
On January 5th, Detectives from Troop 3 responded to an
undisclosed home in the Dover area for the report of an attempted
suicide. In this case, a female attempted to take her own life
using a handgun. Through the officers investigation, it was
determined the aforementioned female obtained the weapons from a
friend of hers Galen Brooks. It was also learned that Mr. Brooks
was unaware of the female’s intentions when he allegedly gave her
the gun.
Through some
research, detectives also learned that Mr. Brooks was a person
prohibited from owning a handgun. A search warrant and an arrest
warrant were generated and Mr. Brooks was apprehended via a traffic
stop on Route 13 at Evergreen Drive at approximately 12:30 p.m. on
Friday, January 9th.
Mr. Brooks was
taken back to Troop 3 where he was found to have been possession of
a large amount of money and suspected marijuana which he concealed
in his coat and in his buttocks. In all, 4 grams of suspected
marijuana were seized as well as $7,880.00 in cash.
At the
conclusion of the investigation, Mr. Brooks was formally charged
with two counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
(felony), two counts of Possession of Marijuana (misdemeanor), two
counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (misdemeanor),
Maintaining a Dwelling for Keeping a Controlled Substance (felony)
and Maintaining a Vehicle for Keeping a Controlled Substance
(felony). Mr. Brooks was released after posting a $3,500 secured
bond.
