DSP News Release: Saturday, January 10, 2009- One Injured, Once Deceased in Fatal Crash on Lancaster Pike

Location of Incident:  Westbound Lancaster Pike, Route 48, west of Hercules Road

Date and Time of Occurrence: Saturday, January 10, 2009, 1:29 a.m.

Resume:  At approximately 1:29 a.m. this morning, Troopers responded to the area of Route 48, west of Hercules Road, for the report of a fatal crash.

A 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt (operated by Lori Beth Klenk, 24, of Hockessin) was traveling westbound on Lancaster Pike west of Hercules Road.

A 2005 Toyota Solara (operated by Diana Pustolski, 21, of Newark) was traveling eastbound in the same area and initially drifted off to its right side of the roadway.  Tire marks indicate that Ms. Pustolski apparently steered back onto the roadway but crossed over the center line.  As Ms. Pustolski was steering back toward the eastbound lane the two vehicles collided head on in the westbound lane.

Ms. Klenk was trapped in her car and pronounced dead at the collision scene.

Ms. Pustolski was extracted from her vehicle and taken to Christiana Hospital where she was admitted with serious injuries.

The events of the collision are still under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit. No charges have been filed.
