DSP News Release: Tuesday, January 06, 2009- Single Vehicle Crash Closes Route 72

Location of Incident:  Route 72 northbound, north of Broadleaf Lane, Newark, Delaware, New Castle County

Date and Time of Occurrence: Tuesday, January 06, 2009, approximately 11:30 a.m.

Resume: Earlier today, Troopers responded to the area of Route 72 northbound, north of Broadleaf Lane for the report of a single vehicle crash. 

A 2008 Chevrolet Impala was operated by Mark Coplan, 62, of Newark.  The vehicle was traveling northbound on Route 72 when  Mr. Coplan lost control of his vehicle and traveled off of the roadway and over a metal guardrail. The Impala also struck a road sign.

Mr. Coplan was extricated from the car by mechanical means.  He sustained non life threatening injuries and was treated and released from Christiana Hospital. 

Mark Coplan was cited with Careless Driving.

The roadway was shut down for approximately 40 minutes.
