DSP News Release: Monday, September 28, 2009- Pick-Up Crashes into Building in Glasgow

Location: 2905 Pulaski Highway, Newark, Delaware, New Castle County

Date of Occurrence: Monday, September 28, 2009, at approximately 8:56 a.m.

Resume: Earlier this morning, Troopers were called to the Glasgow Auto Body, located on Pulaski Highway, for the report of a pick-up truck which crashed into the building.

A 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe (operated by Ms. Terry Vaughn, 47, of Elkton, Maryland) was stopped at a red light on southbound Pleasant Valley Road at westbound Route 40.

The light turned green and the Tahoe proceeded forward.  As it entered the intersection, it collided with a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado (operated by Joseph Barben, 63, of Elkton, Maryland) which was traveling westbound on Route 40.  Subsequent this impact, the 2009 Silverado was forced in a north-westerly direction and onto the property of the Glasgow Auto Body.

The 2009 Silverado then struck a parked 2002 Chevrolet Venture.  The Venture was forced into a parked 2003 Chevrolet Silverado. These vehicles were not occupied at the time of the crash.

The 2009 Silverado continued in a north-westerly direction when it ran into the Glasgow Auto Body main structure causing significant damage. Although the building was occupied at the time of the crash, no one inside reported being injured.

Only Mr. Barben was transported to Christiana Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  He was cited with Disregarding a Red Light.
