DSP News Release: Tuesday, October 22nd, 2009 - Updated Release - Traffic Advisory - School Bus v. Car Injury Crash
Location: Northbound Lanes of Lancaster Pike in front of Cannery Shopping Center, New Castle

The Delaware State Police responded to an injury crash involving a school bus and a motor vehicle.
Initial reports indicated that the school bus was not occuppied, however this is not the case. The 2009 Chevrolet school bus is owned by the Lehaines Bus Service of New Castle. The bus was operated by Mr. Leroy Stanley, 35, of Wilmington. The school bus was transporting high school aged students from the Charter School of Wilmington. Three students were transported via ambulance to Christiana Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
The school bus was traveling in the left lane of northbound Lancaster Pike when a 1999 Ford Taurus operated by Ms. Diana Martinez, 20, of Wilmington, attempted to execute a left turn from the Cannery Shopping Center parking lot. The front of the school bus struck the front driver's side of the Taurus. Ms. Martinez was transported to Christiana Hospital via ambulance for non-life threatening injuries.
Both Mr. Stanley and Ms. Martinez were wearing their seatbelts. The airbags in Ms. Martinez' vehicle deployed.
Ms. Martinez was cited for Failure to Yield Right of Way.
The roadway was partially blocked for approximately one-hour and has since been re-opened.

Delaware State Troopers are presently on-scene an injury crash a school bus and car. The school bus did not have any students on board at the time of the crash. The two right lanes of northbound Lancaster Pike are presently closed.
Motorists may experience some delay in the area. The lanes are expected to be reopened shortly. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
