DSP News Release: Wednesday, October 21, 2009- Purse Snatching Reported in North Wilmington

 

Location: parking lot of the Talleyville Post Office, 3204 Concord Pike, Wilmington, Delaware

 

Date and Time: Monday, October 19th, 2009, at 12:30 p.m.

 

Suspect(s): Unknown black male, 22 – 30 years old, 5’05” to 5’08”, 120 – 140 pounds, with a thin build and wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt.

 

Resume: During the lunchtime hours on Monday, October 19th, a purse snatching occurred in the parking lot of the Talleyville Post Office. 

 

Investigators were called to the Post Office at 12:30 p.m. where a 37-year-old female reported having her purse forcibly taken from her.  The victim advised that she was sitting in her vehicle talking on the cell phone, with her door open, when a male subject approached her car.  The suspect said something to the victim who in turn told the suspect to hold on and that she was on the phone.  The suspect then reached into the car and grabbed the victim’s purse off of the front seat. 

 

The victim tried to grab the purse back; however, she lost control of it and she fell onto the ground.  The suspect fled the scene towards the rear of the post office. 

 

Several witnesses saw this incident occur and confirmed the victim’s account of what happened.  The victim advised she was not injured, but was sore from the struggle.
