DSP News Release: Saturday, October 17th, 2009 * Final Release * Multi-Vehicle Crash at Philadelphia Pike and Harvey Road

 

Location: Philadelphia Pike and Harvey Road, Claymont

 

Date of Occurrence: Saturday, October 17th, 2009 at approximately 10:25 am

 

Suspect(s): N/A

 

Resume: The Delaware State Police responded to Philadelphia Pike and Harvey Road, for the report of a crash at approximately 10:25 am.

 

The investigation revealed that Mr. John L. McDaniel, 72, of Claymont, was operating a 1989 Chevrolet Caprice Station Wagon, northbound on Philadelphia Pike.  Mr. McDaniel suffered a medical complication while driving the vehicle.

 

The vehicle veered sharply to the left, crossing the southbound lanes of Philadelphia Pike, jumped a curb and struck an unoccuppied parked 2005 Pontiac G6, in the Goodwill Industries parking lot.

 

Mr. John McDaniel was transported to Christiana Hospital via ambulance where he passed away.

 

Mr. James McDaniel, 42, of Claymont was seated in the front passenger seat and was wearing his seatbelt.  Mr. James McDaniel was transported to Christiana Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

DSP News Release: Saturday, October 17th, 2009 - Traffic Advisory - Multi-Vehicle Crash

 

Location: Philadelphia Pike and Harvey Road, Claymont

Date of Occurrence: Saturday, October 17th, 2009 at approximately 10:25 am

Suspect(s): N/A

 

Resume: Delaware State Police is presently on a multi-vehicle crash on Philadelphia Pike and Harvey Road.  The roadway is presently closed.  Motorists should seek alternative routes. 

 

Preliminary reports indicated that the crash may have been caused by a medical emergency.
