DSP News Release: Saturday, October 17th, 2009 * Updated Release * Motor Vehicle v. Bicyclist Crash

Location: Maryland Avenue and Germay Drive (On the railroad tracks), Wilmington

Date of Occurrence: Saturday, October 17th, 2009 at approximately 9:40 pm

Suspect(s): N/A

Resume:  The 13-year old bicyclist, Mr. Dylan McKee, of the unit block of Lake Street, Wilmington, involved in this crash has succumbed to his injuries at Christiana Hospital. 

Alcohol and speed do not appear to be a factor in this collision.  The investigation is on-going.

DSP News Release: Saturday, October 17th, 2009 * Updated Release * Motor Vehicle v. Bicyclist Crash - Investigation Underway

Location: Maryland Avenue and Germay Drive (On the railroad tracks), Wilmington

Date of Occurrence: Saturday, October 17th, 2009 at approximately 9:40 pm

Suspect(s): N/A

Resume: The Delaware State Police is actively investigating a crash involving a bicyclist and single vehicle.  The roadway is presently closed in both directions and is expected to reopen within the hour.

 

Preliminary reports indicate that a 2002 Dodge Intrepid, operated by Ms. Lawanda Cropper, 29, of Wilmington was traveling eastbound on Maryland Avenue.  Ms. Cropper's vehicle struck a 13-year old juvenile bicyclist as he attempted to cross the roadway from the sidewalk on the railroad tracks between Germay Drive and Maryland Avenue, Wilmington. 

 

Upon impact, the bicyclist became trapped under the motor vehicle.  Numerous attempts were made to assist the child prior to the arrival of emergency personnel. 

 

Once emergency personnel were on-scene the bicyclist was removed from under the vehicle and immediately transported to Christiana Hospital.  The nature of the child's injuries are life-threatening.   

 

Ms. Cropper's vehicle was occuppied by a front passenger identified as Mr. Elijah Crawford, 34, of Wilmington and two juveniles in the rear seat.  There were no reports of injuries from the occuppants of the Intrepid. 

 

The bicyclist was not wearing a helmet and was in the company of a second juvenile bicyclist who was not injured in the crash. 

 

An additional news release will be issued in the morning once more information becomes available.

DSP News Release: Saturday, October 17th, 2009 - Motor Vehicle v. Bicyclist Crash - Investigation Underway

Date of Occurrence: Saturday, October 17th, 2009 at approximately 9:40 pm

 

Suspect(s): N/A

 

Resume: The Delaware State Police are presently on-scene of a crash involving one vehicle and a bicyclist.

 

The preliminary investigation indicates that a male operating a bicycle was struck by a single motor vehicle.  The bicyclist was transported to Christiana Hospital.

 

Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
