DSP News Release: Wednesday, October 14, 2009- Subject Dies Days after Crash in North Wilmington

 

Location: Marsh Road at Chestnut Road, Wilmington, Delaware, New Castle County

 

Date of Occurrence: Sunday, September 27th, 2009, at 11:07 a.m.

 

Resume: On Sunday, September 27th, Troop 1 patrol officers investigated an injury crash on Marsh Road at Chestnut Road in North Wilmington. 

 

The vehicles involved were as follows:

  • 2009 Honda Civic, operated by John F. Halloran, 80, of Wilmington, Delaware 
  • 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee, operated by Rogar Carter, 59, of Claymont, Delaware State Police

 

This investigation revealed the Honda Civic had stopped at a stop sign on Chestnut Road and was preparing to turn left onto Marsh Road.  The Jeep was traveling northbound on Marsh Road approaching Chestnut Road.  The Honda proceeded to make the left turn, however, into the path of the Jeep.  The two vehicles collided. 

 

Both operators were transported from the scene to area hospitals.  Mr. Carter was treated and released.  Mr. Halloran was admitted with what were originally not considered life threatening injuries.  As days passed, his condition worsened and he eventually succumbed to his injuries. He was pronounced dead at Christiana Hospital on October 10th

 

Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit Members were notified of Mr. Halloran’s passing earlier today- October 14th. 

 

At the time of the original investigation, John Halloran was cited with Failure to Remain Stopped at a Stop Sign.  No additional charges are expected to be filed; however, this crash remains under investigation.
