DSP News Release: Monday, October 12, 2009- Three Undocumented Men Charged with Drug Offenses
Location: Napa Automotive parking lot, 7181 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, Delaware
Date and Time: Sunday, October 11th, 2009, at 12:29 a.m.
Suspect(s):
Resume: Shortly after midnight on Sunday, October 11th, a Troop 6 patrol officer was on routine patrol in the area of Hockessin when he saw a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of the Napa Automotive on Lancaster Pike in Hockessin.
Napa was closed at the time so the Trooper moved in to investigate. He contacted the driver, Ernesto Alvarado-Calamaco, and determined he had been drinking. There were two more occupants in the vehicle. The front seat passenger was identified as Pedro Pantoja-Padilla and the rear seat passenger was later identified as Gaston Alvarado-Calamaco.
While the Trooper was speaking with the other occupants, he observed Gaston attempting to conceal a medicine bottle that was on the floor. Gaston then quickly retrieved a plastic baggie from the medicine bottle and tried to ingest its contents. Gaston could not swallow the baggie and the Trooper ultimately recovered it. The baggie contained suspected cocaine. Another baggie was removed from the medicine bottle which also contained suspected cocaine.
All three subjects had access to the medicine bottle while in the vehicle and no one staked claim to it. Thus, Ernesto, Gaston, and Pedro were all arrested for Possession of Cocaine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (both misdemeanors). Additionally, Ernesto was charged with DUI (traffic offense) and Gaston was charged with Tampering with Evidence (felony).
Furthermore, an additional investigation by the patrol officer revealed these three men were in the US illegally. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was contacted and issued detainers for the three subjects. The three men are currently being held at the Howard Young Correctional Institute in lieu of the ICE detainers and the bonds listed above next to their names.
Media Note: Ernesto and Gaston are brothers.
