Location: Newport Shop Rite, 1600 West Newport Pike, Wilmington, Delaware, New Castle County

Date of Occurrence: Friday, October 2, 2009, at 2:31 p.m.

Suspect(s): two black male subjects… see pictures below

Resume: On Friday the 2nd of October, Troopers were called to investigate a theft which occurred at the Newport Shop Rite.

In this case, an 85-year-old female victim was shopping in the store alone when she was approached by a male suspect.  This subject engaged her in a conversation and the victim went so far as to share some of her coupons with him.  Apparently, while she was distracted, a second subject came up behind her and removed her wallet directly from her purse.

It was not until the victim went to pay for her items that she realized her wallet was missing.

The victim contacted Shop Rite Loss Prevention who checked their surveillance video system. The incident was caught on camera, however, the images proved to be a bit grainy.  The following pictures below were taken from that footage.

Anyone who may know either of these two bandits is asked to contact the Delaware State Police through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
