  • Dollar Tree- 1800 West Newport Pike, Wilmington, Delaware

Date of Occurrence:  October 24th, 2009, at 5:04 p.m. and 5:13 p.m., respectively

Suspect: Jeffrey S. Cline, 35, of Wedgefield Drive, New Castle, Delaware

Resume: Several days ago, two robbery investigations were initiated along the West Newport Pike corridor involving the same suspect.

The first incident occurred at the Country Farms at 5:04 p.m. In this case, a male subject entered the store and handed the clerk a demand note.  The clerk did not comply and the suspect fled the store on foot.

About ten minutes later, this same suspect responded to the Dollar Tree in the First State Plaza Shopping Center.  The suspect waited in the check out line, and when it was his turn, he handed the cashier a demand note.  The cashier screamed and the suspect ran out of the store.

Detectives investigating this case worked with officers from the Newport Police Department and together, they developed Jeffrey S. Cline as the possible suspect.  Cline’s mug shot was compared to surveillance video from the robberies and a positive match was noted.

Warrants were completed and on Monday, November 9th, a Newport Police Officer contacted Cline during a traffic stop and took him into custody.  He was turned over to DSP detectives and formally charged with two counts of Attempted Robbery (felony).  Bail was set at $1,000.00 secured bond and Cline was committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institute.
