Update #2 DSP News Release:  Monday, November 09, 2009- Fatal Crash on Route 273

 

Newark- A 2002 Dodge Caravan, operated by a 79-year-old female Newark resident, was traveling eastbound on Route 273 approaching a green traffic signal at the intersection with Main Street (which is also the entrance to the Christiana Town Center).  A 13-year-old Newark boy was riding his bicycle and was crossing Route 273, from north to south, when he rode his bike directly into the path of the Dodge resulting in the collision.

 

The boy was not wearing a helmet. The operator of the Dodge was not injured. 

 

The names of those involved will be provided to the media tomorrow afternoon. 

 

No charges have been filed and this crash remains under investigation.

Preliminary DSP News Release:  Monday, November 09, 2009- Fatal Crash on Route 273

 

Location: Route 273 eastbound, at West Main Street, Newark, Delaware, New Castle County (in front of the Christiana Town Center)

 

Date of Occurrence: Monday, November 09, 2009, at approximately 4:50 p.m.

 

Resume: Investigators from the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit are currently on the scene of a fatal crash on Route 273 in Newark. 

 

The scene is located on Route 273 eastbound in front of the Christiana Town Center at West Main Street. 

 

Preliminary reports from the scene indicate this crash involves a vehicle and a bicyclist.  The bicyclist, a male subject, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

 

A more complete release will be provided later this evening once details are known and confirmed. 

 

Motorists should expect delays.
