DSP News Release: Thursday, May 21, 2009- Troopers Investigate Late Night Purse Snatching in New Castle

 

Location of Incident: Parking lot of the Rite Aid, 2034 New Castle Avenue, New Castle, Delaware, New Castle County

 

Date and Time of Occurrence: Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at approximately 9:35 p.m.

 

Suspect(s): Unknown black male, 20 – 30 years old, thin build, 5’08”, clean shaven, wearing khaki pants, white sneakers and a gray hooded sweatshirt

 

Resume: Last evening, Troopers were called to the parking lot of the Rite aid on New Castle Avenue for a reported purse snatching. 

 

This investigation revealed, a 58-year-old female victim had patroned the Rite Aid and was walking to her car when she was approached by a male suspect.  This subject asked to use the victim’s cell phone and the victim refused.  The suspect then forcibly snatched the victim’s purse from her shoulder and pushed the victim to the ground. 

 

The suspect was last seen fleeing on foot towards Landers Lane.

 

The victim advised she did take notice to the suspect prior to shopping at the Rite Aid. She said he was standing outside the store talking on a cell phone.
