Update on Shooting

Wilmington - The Delaware State Police are providing additional information in regards to the shooting that occurred earlier today at the Canby Park shopping center.
Investigators have learned that the deceased person is a Hispanic male. Additionally, witnesses have reported to detectives that a blue Ford Windstar minivan was observed pulling into the southwest corner of the shopping center just prior to the shooting.
Witnesses stated several persons were observed exiting the van. Specifically, two black males were observed exiting the minivan in an aggressive manner. One person exited the driver’s door and began running northbound through the parking lot. The second person was observed exiting the right front passenger door. Both these subjects were then observed shooting at one another with handguns.
During the altercation, several people were in the general vicinity of the incident and began running from the area. One person, a Hispanic male was then observed falling to the ground on the sidewalk of the southwest corner of the shopping center. He had been struck by a bullet in the head and died at the scene.
All persons that exited the van then fled the area on foot and in the vehicle. Shortly after the shooting, a black male subject walked into St. Francis Hospital suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. He informed authorities he was shot in the Canby Park shopping center. That subject, a 30 year old male, was transported to Christiana Hospital and is listed in serious condition.
Detectives have obtained descriptions of the two persons observed in the shooting. They have been described as a black male, braided hair, 6’ tall, wearing a white thermal shirt, blue jeans, late twenties or early thirties. The second person was described only as a stocky black male wearing a horizontal striped shirt, possibly blue, white and green colors.
Detectives are continuing the investigation and are asking for anyone with any information on this incident to contact homicide detectives at 302.739.5939, Troop 2 at 302.834.2620, Crime Stoppers at 1.800.TIP.3333. Note: detectives are obtaining surveillance video from area businesses and if any photographs become available they will be disseminated to the media. The identity of the deceased is still under investigation. Once it becomes known and next of kin has been notified the name will be released. Witnesses also reported that during the shooting the driver’s side window of the Ford Windstar was broken.
State Police Investing Shooting Incident - One Male Deceased

Wilmington – The Delaware State Police are currently on-scene of a fatal shooting that occurred near the Canby Park Shopping Center located at 1952 Maryland Avenue.
Police were called at approximately 3:47 pm after 911 was called reporting a shooting occurred in the parking lot of the shopping center and a male subject was apparently deceased. Emergency crews arrived on scene and did confirm a male subject had been shot and died at the scene.
Shortly afterward, authorities learned that a second male subject had walked into the emergency room at St. Francis Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest area. That person has been transferred to Christiana Hospital. Their condition is currently unknown. Police are investigating whether the two incidents are related.
