Final Update on Middletown Fatal Crash

Middletown – The Delaware State Police are providing additional details surrounding the fatal crash that occurred earlier this evening. Investigators learned a 2004 Ford Explorer, operated by Cristina Almodovar, 30 of Milton was traveling northbound in the left lane of USRT 1 south of Bayview Road when for an unknown reason the Explorer left the west edge of the roadway entering the center grass median.
The Ford Explorer then overcorrected to the right in an apparent attempt to regain control of the vehicle when it left the east edge of the roadway overturning several times. As a result, Ms. Almodovar was partially ejected and sustained fatal injuries. She died at Christiana Hospital.
She had three of her children in the vehicle with her. Darian Almodovar, 11 was seated in the front passenger seat and sustained serious injuries. He is admitted to Christiana Hospital after being flown there by DSP Helicopter. Brianna Jiminez, 8 and Jordan Guzman, 5 were seated in the rear and sustained minor injuries. All children were wearing seatbelts.
Seatbelt use on Ms. Almodovar is unknown at this time. Alcohol and speed were not a factor in the crash. The roadway has been reopened. The crash remains under investigation.

Middletown Crash a Confirmed Fatality
The Delaware State Police are confirming a female operator of the vehicle involved has died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. Additionally, three children were inside the vehicle during the crash. One male juvenile was flown to Christina Hospital by DSP helicopter and is in serious condition. Two other juveniles, a male and female, were taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
The single car crash remains under investigation and when additional details are confirmed they will be released.
Preliminary Release - State Police On-Scene of Serious Crash

Middletown – The Delaware State Police are currently on-scene of a serious crash located in the northbound lane of USRT 1 in the area of Bay View Road, north of Odessa.
Preliminary reports indicate one person has been ejected and is in critical condition. The northbound lane is closed and motorists should seek alternative routes. When additional information is known it will be provided.
