DSP News Release: Thursday, May 28, 2009- Two Vehicle Crash Snarls Morning Traffic on Route 13

 

Location of Incident: Route 13 at Llangollen Boulevard, New Castle, Delaware, New Castle County

 

Date and Time of Occurrence: Thursday, May 28, 2009, at approximately 4:44 a.m.

 

Resume: Shortly before 5:00 this morning, Troopers were called to Route 13 northbound at Llangollen Boulevard in reference to a two vehicle crash.

 

A 2007 Freightliner tractor-trailer (operated by Michael Terrerton, 58, of Raleigh, North Carolina) was stopped in the right lane on Route 13 northbound at a red light at Llangollen Boulevard.

 

A 2002 Mack Truck (operated by Jeffrey Jump, 35, of Horntown, Virginia) was traveling Route 13 northbound in the right lane the Freightliner.

 

The operator of the Mack, Mr. Jump, leaned over to pick something up.  And while he wasn’t paying attention to traffic ahead, he rear-ended the tractor-trailer. 

 

As a result of the impact, Mr. Jump was trapped in his vehicle for over an hour.  Once extricated, he was transported from the scene to Christiana Hospital where his injuries were not considered life threatening. 

 

Mr. Tetterton was not injured.

 

Traffic was impacted for approximately two hours.

 

Jeffrey Jump was cited with Inattentive Driving.
