DSP News Release: Monday, June 29, 2009- Middletown High School Teacher Charged with Rape 4th
Location of Incident: Middletown High School in Middletown, Delaware and the unit block of East Radisson Run in Clayton, Delaware
Date and Time of Occurrence: Various dates and times between 2005 through 2006
Suspect(s): Robert R. Schumacher, 39, of unit block of East Radisson Run in Clayton, Delaware
Resume: Earlier today, detectives from the Delaware State Police Major Crimes Unit arrested Middletown High School business teacher Robert R. Schumacher, 39, of Clayton for ten counts of Rape in the 4th degree.
This investigation revealed in late 2005, Schumacher befriended a then 17-year-old female student. The victim soon became a babysitter at the Schumacher residence and their relationship eventually turned physical. It has been alleged that sexual encounters took place between the two primarily at Schumacher’s home, but also once at school- in a classroom. Their relationship lasted approximately seven months.
The victim decided to come forward several months ago and report the incident. After an exhaustive investigation, warrants were completed and Schumacher voluntarily turned himself in to authorities today. He was released after posting a $25,000.00 secured bond.
