Troopers Seek Publics’ Assistance in Identifying Robbery Suspect
Released-Saturday, June 20, 2009
Newark-On Friday, June 19th, at approximately 11:15 a.m., a Troop 6 Trooper responded to the Getty Service Station located at 1147 Christiana Road for the report of a theft.
An investigation revealed that the suspect, described as a dark skinned black male, 17-20 years of age, approximately 5’7”, approximately 150 lbs., with short hair, wearing a long black shirt and black pants, approached an employee and inquired if a diagnostic test could be performed on his vehicle.
The suspect stood outside of his vehicle as the employee plugged a Snap-On diagnostic scanner, valued at $4000.00 into the port under the steering column of the suspect's vehicle. The employee opened the hood of the vehicle and without warning, the suspect hopped into the driver’s seat, and placed the vehicle into reverse. The employee ran toward the open driver side door and attempted to retrieve the scanner, however he was struck by the driver’s side door and knocked to the ground as the suspect backed his vehicle from the business. The employee was dragged several feet and sustained minor scrapes and abrasions as the suspect continued traveling in reverse. The employee did not seek medical attention for his injuries.
The suspect was last seen traveling southbound on South Gerald Drive from westbound Christiana Road with the hood fully opened.
