DSP News Release: Tuesday, July 21, 2009, 9:15 a.m. Vendetta or Just Mean Spirited, Vandals Cause $100,000 in Damage to Area School
Location of Incident: Heritage Elementary School, 2815 Highlands Lane, Wilmington, Delaware, New Castle County
Date of Occurrence: Monday, July 20th, 2009, at approximately 8:46 p.m.
Suspect(s): None at this time
Resume: Angry? Puzzled? Saddened? All of the above? These were certainly the range of emotions for school officials who responded to the Heritage Elementary School late last night.
At approximately 8:46 p.m., DSP dispatch center RECOM, received a call about an alarm activation at the school. Troopers arrived on the scene within minutes and proceeded to check the interior. The building was cleared and no suspects were located.
Troopers and school officials then went back room by room and began to inventory the damage which has been estimated at about $100.000.00. A brand new computer lab was demolished, windows smashed out and floors ruined with bleach and other cleaning supplies. The list goes on.
There is no suspect information at this time. Anyone who may have information pertaining to this case is asked to call 302-834-2630 ext. 211 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
Notice to media representatives: The DSP Public Information Officer and school officials will be on scene today, July 21st, at approximately 10:45 a.m. to conduct interviews and show the damage. Those responding to the school are kindly asked to call Cpl/1 Whitmarsh in advance at 302-598-5188.
