For Immediate Release -  Sunday July 12, 2009 (1:45 p.m.)

Hockessin -  The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the Red Clay Creek River for a single vehicle crash that ended up in the water.

At approximately 3:00 a.m. this morning Carolina Botero, 43, of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania was traveling eastbound on Yorklyn Road towards Creek Road in her 2005 Mercedes Benz E320.  The roadway curves to the right just prior to the bridge for the Red Clay Creek River.  Ms. Botero's vehicle continued traveling straight and rode up the concrete abutment vaulting it into the river while overturning.  The vehicle landed upside down in the river.  Ms. Botero was extricated from the vehicle by the marine unit of the responding fire companies and pronounced dead at the scene.

The river was swept for any additional occupants with negative results.  There was a dog located in the vehicle that was transported to Newark Animal Hospital with unknown injuries.

It is undetermined if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Ms. Botero was not properly restrained.
