Updated DSP News Release #1: Thursday, August 20, 2009: Fatal Motorcycle Crash on Airport Road
New Castle- The following information has been updated...
A 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle, operated by Shelly L. Cox-Ellsworth, 46, of Newark, was traveling eastbound on Airport Road approaching a curve in the roadway west of Old Airport Road. The motorcycle was driving at a high rate of speed and the operator failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway.
The Harley crossed the median and traveled into the westbound lanes where it collided head on with a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt, operated by Donna E. Lemons, 48, of Bear, Delaware.
Ms. Cox-Ellsworth was ejected from the bike. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Ms. Lemons sustained minor injuries.
This crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed.
As far as the subjects at the scene were concerned, they dispersed peacefully and no arrests were made.

Location: Airport Road, adjacent to Commons Boulevard
Date of Occurrence: Thursday, August 20, 2009, at 6:49 p.m.
Resume: The Delaware State Police are currently on the scene of a single vehicle fatal motorcycle crash on Airport Road at Commons Boulevard. The motorcycle operator, a female, has been pronounced dead at the scene.
Reports from the scene indicate are large crowd arrived and was disorderly. This prompted a response by several police officers to maintain order.
This crash is in its preliminary stages and a news release will be disseminated once new facts are known and confirmed.
