News Release: Tuesday, August 18, 2009- Car Strikes Tractor Trailer in I-95 Service Area

 

Location: Access road to the I-95 Service Area from I-95 southbound

 

Date of Occurrence: Tuesday, August 18, 2009, at 4:48 a.m.

 

Resume: Late last night, Mr. James Lowry (unknown age), of Alabama, drove his Volvo tractor trailer into the Service Area via I-95 southbound and legally parked on the right shoulder to get some sleep. 

 

At approximately 4:48 a.m. this morning a 2008 Scion sedan (operated by Mr. Dai Vo, 52, of Virginia) was traveling I-95 southbound and exited onto the Service Area access road.  Authorities believe Mr. Vo fell asleep at the wheel, drifted to the right and rear ended the parked tractor trailer. 

 

The Scion was wedged under the trailer.  The front seat passenger, Ms. Hong Mellon, 52, of Virginia, had to extricated from the car by mechanical means. 

 

Mr. Vo, Ms. Mellon and rear seat passenger, Ms. Loan Nguyen, 59, of Virginia, were all transported from the scene to Christiana Hospital where they were admitted with non-life threatening injuries.   

 

Mr. Lowry was not injured.

 

Mr. Vo was cited with Inattentive Driving.
