The Headline: Thursday, August 13, 2009- Single Vehicle Crash Closes I-495

 

Location: I-495 southbound at Edgemoor Road, Wilmington, Delaware, New Castle County

 

Date of Occurrence: Thursday, August 13, 2009, at 3:00 p.m.

 

Resume: At approximately 3:00 p.m. today, Troopers and emergency personnel responded to I-495 southbound at Edgemoor Road for a single vehicle crash.

 

A 2005 Ford pick up was traveling southbound on I-495 when the operator closed in quickly on a vehicle ahead.  The driver of the Ford attempted to change lanes to the right and lost control. The Ford slammed into the right hand guardrail.  It then careened back across all of the southbound lanes and struck the left hand guardrail and overturned. 

 

The operator of the Ford, William Blake, 29, of Parkside, Pennsylvania, was trapped for over an hour and had to be extricated by mechanical means.  He was transported to Christiana Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.   He was cited with Careless Driving. 

 

Traffic was restricted until approximately 4:45 p.m.
