DSP News Release: Saturday, August 1, 2009—Troopers Apprehend Multiple Juveniles in an Attempted Burglary
Location: Tobacco Discount, 2097 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, Delaware
Date of Occurrence: Friday, July 31, 2009 ar approximately 11:45 p.m.
Suspect(s): Dylan Depetris, 14 of Wilmington Kyle V. Helmick, 16 of Claymont Tyler Worrell, 15 of Wilmington Jason Porter, 17 of Wilmington
Resume: Shortly before midnight on Friday, July 31st, Troop 1 patrol troopers were dispatched to the above location in reference to rear door alarm activation.
The first arriving trooper observed four subjects fleeing from the scene on foot in a southwesterly direction, toward the tree line. The trooper exited his vehicle and proceeded to chase the subjects.
The trooper located a subject, later identified as Dylan Depetris, hiding in bushes at #7 Georgetown Ave. Depetris was taken into custody without incident.
Arriving troopers continued a search of the area. A subject, later identified as Kyle Helmick, was located in the area of Delaware Ave, and was taken into custody without incident.
Through the investigation, troopers learned of Tyler Worrell's and Jason Porter’s involvement in the attempted burglary. Troopers responded to Worrell’s residence and made arrangements for Worrell to respond to Troop 1, and contacted Porter via telephone and made arrangements for him to respond to Troop 1.
Troopers recovered two back packs and a baseball cap at the crime scene, and learned of a crow bar which was dumped in a creek in a nearby wooded area.
The business was not damaged and no property was removed from the business.
All four subjects were processed and video arraigned before Judge Skelley at JP Court-20.
Depetris and Worrell were each charged with Attempted Burglary 3rd (felony), Conspiracy 2nd (felony), Loitering (violation) and Resisting Arrest (misdemeanor).
Helmick and Porter were each charged with Attempted Burglary 3rd (felony), Conspiracy 2nd, Possession of Burglary Tools (felony), Loitering (violation) and Resisting Arrest (misdemeanor).
Depetris and Worrell were released to their parents on $2000 unsecured bond pending a later court appearance.
Helmick and Porter were released to their parents on $3000 unsecured bond pending a later court appearance.
