DSP News Release: Saturday, April 25, 2009- Single Vehicle Crash Impacts I-95

 

Location of Incident: Route 1 northbound ramp to I-95 northbound, Newark, Delaware, New Castle County

 

Date and Time of Occurrence: Saturday, April 25, 2009, at approximately 4:40 p.m.

 

Resume: Troopers from Troop 6 responded to the Route 1 northbound ramp to I-95 northbound this afternoon for a single vehicle crash. 

 

Mario Alcantora, 26, of Wilmington, was operating his 1996 Honda Civic on the ramp, and for an unknown reason, he drifted off of the left edge of the roadway. Mario over-corrected to the right and began to slide sideways.  The Honda then went off of the right side of the roadway where it struck a concrete block and overturned several times. 

 

Mr. Alcantora was transported from the scene to Christiana Hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.  He was not wearing his seatbelt during the crash. 

 

The ramp was closed for approximately one hour.

 

Mr. Alcantora was cited for Failure to Maintain Lane, No Proof of Insurance, Driving without a License and also issued an assessment for failing to wear his seatbelt.
