Troopers Arrest Two in Multiple Kent County Burglaries/Thefts

Kent County- On Thursday, May 7, 2009, the Delaware State Police arrested two people responsible for committing over 100 burglaries/thefts throughout Kent County between February 22, 2009 and April 15, 2009. 

 

The arrests are directly related to residential burglaries and thefts from residences as well as vehicles, which occurred in the towns of Camden, Dover, Felton, Frederica, Harrington, Magnolia and Milford.

 

The arrests resulted after a 911 call was placed to report a suspicious person in a Frederica neighborhoodTroopers responded and observed Daniel D. Hoffman, 27, of Stuff Cove in Frederica breaking into vehicles  Mr. Hoffman was subsequently apprehended and his vehicle was found to be filled with stolen property.

 

Through the investigation, troopers were able to link Mr. Hoffman to numerous other cases. 

 

Additionally, the interview with Mr. Hoffman and other witnesses linked Matthew D. Hughes, 23, of South Bay Rd in Dover was to the case.

 

As a result of the apprehensions and investigation, detectives recovered several of the stolen items which included cash and checks, purses and wallets, bank cards and identification cards, prescription medication, laptop computers and miscellaneous computer equipment consisting of GPS’s, compact discs, DVD’s, digital cameras, computer games, radar detectors, i-pods, stereo equipment, in addition to other personal items.  Many of the items have been returned to the owners.

 

Because of this investigation, both subjects received 112 criminal charges including 49 burglaries (felonies), 51 thefts (felonies/misdemeanors) , 3 attempted thefts (misdemeanors), 5 criminal mischief (misdemeanors), 2 conspiracy (felonies) and 1 criminal trespass (misdemeanor).

 

Both subjects were arrested and arraigned at Troop 3 then later committed to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in lieu of

$85, 750 (Hofman) and $11,200.00 (Hughes) bail.

 

This investigation is ongoing, as detectives are expecting to return more of the stolen property.
